Description

The data gives the pressure–specific volume–temperature (pvT) data of a semi-crystalline polymer: polypropylene (PP) including the experimental results and prediction results by the modified new pvT models. The experimental data was from the pvT measurement at the temperature ranged from 260 to 30 °C with cooling rates of 2, 5, and 10 °C/min at the isobarci pressure levels of 200, 400, 800, 1200 and 1600 bar. Accordingly, the data was used for the estimation of constant parameters of the modified two-domain Tait equation of state. The models showed different prediction accuracy. The continuous two-domain Tait equation of state considering cooling rate for semi-crystalline polymers is the best pvT model to be used in the polymer engineering especially injection molding. The model was successfully applied to predict the specific volume in the mold cavity during injection molding. The trace of specific volume shows difference when considering the effect of cooling rate, compared with the traditional prediction.
