Description

This study primarily employs three datasets. The first dataset is derived from the World Input-Output Database (WIOD), specifically the 2000–2014 World Input-Output Tables (WIOT) released in 2016. The second dataset comes from the Annual Survey of Industrial Firms (ASIF) in China, covering the period from 2000 to 2013. Following the sequential matching method proposed by Brandt et al. (2012), firms are first matched using their legal entity codes, followed by firm name, and finally postal codes, administrative region codes, and other identifying information. The dataset is then cleaned in accordance with the procedures outlined by Feenstra et al. (2014). The third dataset is sourced from the China Customs Database, which contains monthly trade records from 2000 to 2013. Monthly data are aggregated to the annual frequency, and 8-digit HS codes are collapsed to the 6-digit level. Finally, adopting the method of Upward et al. (2013), the industrial firm data and customs data are matched using firm-level information such as postal codes and telephone numbers.
