# Accelerometer data elaboration donkey pasture

## Description

Elaboration of raw acceleration data obtained from a tri-axial accelerometer used on donkeys at pasture. The acceleration data were grouped in different intervals of time called epochs, corresponding to the following time intervals: 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 seconds. Mean, variance, and inverse of the coefficient of variation (obtained from the ratio between mean and standard deviation) for each axis and considering the trhee axis togheter were computed according to Watanabe et al. (2008).

## Steps to reproduce

This dataset was obtained involving 11 donkeys at pasture. On each test day one different donkey was equipped with a collar holding a bell in which there was a tri-axial accelerometer instead of the clapper. The device was set to select, for each second, the three highest acceleration peaks on the three directions; X (longitudinal), Y (horizontal), and Z (vertical). Donkeys were video recorded during test days. Then each video was elaborated to assign for each second one of the following behaviors: Grazing ( code 1), Walking (code 2), Resting (code 3). The three-acceleration data, for each second and for the three Cartesian directions, were averaged to obtain one value for X, one value for Y, and one value for Z for each second. Acceleration data were grouped in 7 intervals of time called epochs: 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 seconds in which Mean, Variance, and Inverse coefficient of variation were computed for each axis and considering the values of the three axis togher. At the end, for each epoch, the following 12 variables were obtained: three mean values (MX, MY, MZ), three variances (VX, VY, VZ), three inverted coefficients of variation (ICVX, ICVY, ICVZ), and three across axes values (MR, VR, ICVR).
