Provincial Panel Dataset: Determinants of Poverty in Thailand, 2018-2021
Description
This dataset contains a balanced provincial panel covering all 77 provinces of Thailand over the period 2018–2021 (308 province-year observations), compiled to examine the determinants of provincial poverty in Thailand. Variables include the provincial poverty rate, working-age and elderly population shares, the number of legally registered migrant workers, reported drug-related cases, crimes against life, body, and sexual integrity, the number of physicians, average O-NET Grade 6 test scores, and a border-province indicator. Data were compiled from official Thai government sources, including the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), the Digital Government Development Agency's Thai People Map and Analytics Platform (TPMAP), the Department of Employment, the Royal Thai Police, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, the National Institute of Educational Testing Service (NIETS), and the Department of Provincial Administration. All variables were individually cross-checked against original official source files, with corrections applied where discrepancies were identified; the border-province indicator, constructed from existing regional classifications, has not been independently verified. This dataset supports the empirical analysis reported in "Determinants of Provincial Poverty in Thailand: Evidence from Panel Data Analysis" (Pensupar, Pipoblabanan, & Mahathanaseth).

Steps to reproduce
Provincial-level source data were obtained directly from the official government agencies listed in the dataset description (NESDC, TPMAP, Department of Employment, Royal Thai Police, Office of the Narcotics Control Board, NIETS, and Department of Provincial Administration) for the years 2018–2021. Each variable was compiled into a single province-year panel (77 provinces × 4 years = 308 observations) and cross-checked against the original official source files. Where discrepancies were identified between the compiled panel and the official source files, values were corrected to match the official source. All continuous variables were log-transformed prior to estimation; three province-year observations with a poverty rate of exactly zero were recoded to 0.0001 prior to the logarithmic transformation. The panel was estimated using Pooled OLS with province-clustered standard errors, as reported in the accompanying "Regression Results" sheet. Full variable definitions, units, sources, and verification notes are provided in the "Variable Definitions" sheet of the dataset file.
