Description

In the last three decades, new energy sources/modalities, mainly bipolar and laser energies, have been introduced to decrease monopolar TURP morbidity. Bipolar TURP (B-TURP) has been shown to reduce blood transfusion and TUR-syndrome compared to monopolar TURP. Among laser procedures, Thulium Laser Vapo-enucleation of the prostate (ThuVEP) was demonstrated to have low perioperative morbidity even in highly comorbid and elderly patients, with an effective and long-term improvement in LUTS and objective voiding parameters. In the present dataset, we gathered comparative data on postoperative complications and functional outcomes of elderly men undergoing B-TURP as compared to ThuVEP in daily practice.
