Development and validation of a university social responsibility scale based on students’ perceptions for operationalizing equity in higher education

This dataset accompanies the study “Development and validation of a university social responsibility scale based on students’ perceptions for operationalising equity in higher education”. The study develops and validates a multidimensional instrument for assessing students’ perceptions of institutional conditions associated with University Social Responsibility (USR), educational equity, inclusion and sustainable university environments. The dataset contains survey responses from 583 undergraduate students enrolled in business-related programmes at a public university in northern Mexico. It includes demographic information (age, gender, place of residence and semester), responses to 48 Likert-type questionnaire items, and an open-ended question concerning actions that the university could implement to strengthen University Social Responsibility. The questionnaire covers institutional areas related to learning infrastructure, health and wellbeing, institutional benefits and support, professional development, social and environmental engagement, integral formation and inclusion, and identity and belonging. The accompanying article reports the sequential scale-development process, including conceptual domain identification, focus groups, expert content validation, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The final validated measurement model comprises seven dimensions: learning infrastructure; health and wellbeing; institutional benefits; professional development; social and environmental engagement; integral formation and inclusion; and identity and belonging. The files deposited here include the research dataset in Microsoft Excel format and the accepted article associated with the study. The dataset is provided to support transparency, reproducibility and further research on University Social Responsibility, educational equity and students’ perceptions of higher education environments.
