Description

This repository contains the replication package for the paper “The long-term economic effects of war shocks: Evidence from the Spanish Civil War” by Rafael González-Val and Javier Silvestre (Universidad de Zaragoza). The package includes all Stata do-files, datasets, and documentation required to reproduce the empirical results reported in the paper. The replication files generate the main tables, appendix tables, robustness checks, placebo simulations, and the extended-sample analysis presented in the article. A README file provides instructions for reproducing the results, while a Codebook describes the main variables and data sources. The replication files were developed using Stata 14 and require the user-written packages `acreg`, `outreg2`, and `csdid`.

Files

Steps to reproduce

1. Download the ZIP archive from this repository. 2. Extract all files into a single working directory. 3. Open Stata (version 14 or later). 4. Install the required user-written packages (`acreg`, `outreg2`, and `csdid`) if they are not already available. 5. Run the desired replication do-file: `01_Main_Results.do` reproduces the main tables (Tables 1–7). `02_Appendices.do` reproduces Appendix Tables A–D and G–H. `03_Appendix_E_Placebo.do` reproduces the placebo simulations reported in Appendix E. `04_Appendix_F_ExtendedSample.do` reproduces the extended-sample analysis reported in Appendix F. 6. The do-files automatically generate the corresponding tables and figures in the working directory (or in the output folder specified within the do-files). 7. Consult the README and Codebook files for additional information on the replication files, datasets, variables, and software requirements.
