Description

This research paper survey was used to investigate the role of university induction programs in the integration of first-year students into higher education. Given the significance of the first year in shaping students' subsequent academic trajectory, understanding the expectations and experiences of students during the induction process is crucial. This research sought to identify the most effective induction activities and assess their impact on students' academic success, confidence, and integration into the university environment. A mixed-methods research approach was adopted, using a questionnaire completed by 20 first-year students from the Programming Concepts to Construction 2 module at Edge Hill University. Results showed that team-building activities, employability talks, and social events were prominent components of students' induction experience. The research also revealed a strong connection between induction activities and first-year students' confidence.
