Description

The video clips show the hydrodynamic behaviors in the fluidized bed column using the perforated plate distributor and the slotted distributors with inclination angles of 30, 45 and 60 degrees. The vertical velocity component results in the vertical motions of particles. The swirling motions of particles are caused by the horizontal velocity component. For the slotted distributors, the swirling motions of particles are observed above the distributors. As the inclination angle increases, the bed expansion increases due to a higher value of vertical velocity component. In the case of the perforated plate distributor, the largest bed expansion is obtained.

Steps to reproduce

The fluidized bed column is made of acrylic with inner diameter 0.14 m and height 1 m. The head of the column is made of stainless steel (SS304). The cyclone is connected to the head of the column to collect some particles from the outlet stream. The gas is supplied using a blower (Ventex model 2RB). The bed pressure is measured using a pressure transducer (Nagano model ADZ - SML - 10). Polypropylene particles (HMC Polymers, PTTGC & LyondellBasell) are used as bed materials. The flow behaviors are recorded using a high-speed video camera.
