Steps to reproduce

The stata codes build on the codes used by Luigi Pascali in his paper "The wind of change: Maritime technology, trade, and economic development", published in the American Economic Review in 2017. Polity IV data was retrieved from the Polity website. Contents: Data: This directory includes the datasets used for all exercises in the paper. It contains the following databases: PolityData, dadosLPRED and ContryCode. code.do: This is the Stata replication script for the paper's analyses. This file contains detailed documentation. All results (figures and tables) produced during the execution of this code will be saved in the 'Results' folder. The code also saves the processed dataset with the baseline temporal window. other_results.xlsx: This file generates Table 2 and Figure 5. You only need to paste the dataset generated by the code.do file. Results: This folder will store the results generated by running the code.do file.
