Evaluation of Anxiety and Depression Levels in Parents of Child With Hearing Loss

This study is aimed to compare the depression and anxiety levels between parents with children with hearing loss and parents with children with normal hearing. Within the scope of the study, the hearing loss (HL) group was formed from 60 parents with a child with hearing loss, and the normal hearing (NH) group was formed from 60 parents with a child with normal auditory development. Personal Information Form, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were used as data collection tools. The groups were compared among themselves according to their scale scores. In addition, the correlations between the BAI and BDI scores of the individuals in the groups and their parenting attitude, the family's income level, and the parent's education level were examined.

Steps to reproduce
The study was conducted with 60 parents with children with hearing loss and 60 parents with children with typical development. The inclusion criteria for the group of parents with hearing loss were that the child had no additional disability other than hearing loss. For the parents with a child with a typically developing child, the child did not have any disability. The researchers prepared a 'personal information form' to determine the demographic characteristics of all parents and their children participating in the study. All individuals in the study and control groups were compared using the "Beck Anxiety Inventory" and the "Beck Depression Inventory."The scales were arranged with Google Forms and A4 paper and applied to parents with normal hearing and deaf and hard-of-hearing children face-to-face via social media, mobile phone messages, and e-mail. Families of deaf and hard-of-hearing children were reached through hearing aid sales centers, associations, and social media. The families of children with normal hearing were contacted via social media.
