Description

This experiment was done to analyze the impact of dietary macronutrients and the associated microbiome on energy intake. We used 2 different diets and one mouse strain (C57BL/6). This file contains the cage average data of male C57BL/6 mice exposed to 12 weeks feeding on one of 2 different diets. Energy intake recorded on weekly basis per cage; final energy intake calculated at the end of each treatment period. 9 to 10 animals were exposed to each diet with 2 animals per cage. Dietary treatments consisted of one level of dietary fat (55% by energy) combined with one level of protein (30% by energy) with either casein (CAS) or whey protein isolate (WPI). Full details of the dietary compositions can be found in the paper supplementary table 1. First, animals were fed for 4 weeks with either 30% CAS or WPI in a 55% fat diet and switched to a 4-week antibiotic (ABX) treatment (i.e., CAS-ABX, WPI-ABX) or they continued to receive the same diet (CAS-control, WPI-control). For the final 4 weeks of the experiment, the two control groups acted as faecal donors for the two groups which had received antibiotics. Complete meta-data are in the meta-data tab of the file.
