Description

The dataset includes the analytical methods and supplementary figures of the manuscript, together with mineral and whole-rock chemical and zircon, titanite and apatite U-Pb ages and trace element compositions of leucogranite and phengite gneiss in the central Sulu belt. We use these data to interpret the central Sulu UHP terrane cooled during exhumation from mantle depths to crustal levels followed a nearly constant rate of ~11.4 °C/Myr, whereas exhumation of the UHP terrane occurred in two stages, from UHP conditions to ~1.2 GPa at a rate of ~8.6" " km/Myr and thereafter a slower rate of ~0.87 km/Myr. The first stage of fast exhumation was accompanied by migration of leucogranite melt along foliation in the gneiss, likely decreasing the average density and weakening the crust, both of which would have enhanced the rate of return flow.
