Survey of protein degradation rates across growth conditions in E. coli and S. cerevisiae.
We compiled two data sets from the literature on rates of protein degradation in E. coli and S. cerevisiae across growth conditions. We set out to look at trends that do not depend on the specific metabolic mechanisms behind the attainment of a certain growth level. To this end, we identified and quantified how degradation rates change as the overall growth rate of the cell changes. For each species, we annotated and computed the growth rate and the average degradation rate in different growth conditions. We find that degradation levels increase as cells grow slower. This dataset was compiled as part of our research study on protein degradation across growth conditions. Readers can find further information on the data and related findings by reading our article at the following link: https://doi.org/10.1101/2021.03.25.436692. We have divided this Mendeley dataset into two folders: (i) the first folder contains the compiled dataset as CSV files, as well as a README file to describe how we annotated and computed all the quantities from the literature; (ii) the second folder contains two python scripts to replicate our findings and further investigate the dataset, as well as a README file that described how to use the scripts.
