Description

This dataset of micromorphological photos reflecting the variability of soil microstructure features between the buried soils of different age and modern surface soils. Characteristics of the shape and size of nodules, cutans, pore space, micromass, and etc. can be studied. The photographs were not segmented so that the data set could be used for the valuation of soil microstructure features quantitative indicators in any software.

Steps to reproduce

The thin section analysis was conducted using both 1) an Olympus BX51 polarizing microscope (Tokyo, Japan) with an Olympus DP26 digital camera (Tokyo, Japan) and 2) Zeiss AXIO Imager.A2m (Germany) with Zeiss Axiocam 305 color camera and Märzhäuser Wetzlar motorized stage. Micromorphological pictures were taken in plane-polarized light (PPL) and cross-polarized light (XPL). Microphotographs of all thin sections were done by using both 1) Olympus stream basic software (Japan) and 2) the Thixomet image analysis software (Russia).
