Emotional Intelligence and Resilience: The Architects of Work-Life balance

Intellectual empowerment and a strong emphasis on professional growth among women professionals has contributed to the objective of creating a new India. Gender roles in modern India are now considered one of history's most significant social accomplishments with a change in women’s conceptions of their obligations and societal roles. The current study intends to investigate the association between Emotional Intelligence, Resilience and Work-Life Balance among women in India working in the fields of STEM and non-STEM. A cross-sectional sample of 200 women professionals were given the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, Nicholson McBride Resilience Questionnaire, and the Work Life Balance Self-Assessment Scale. Data was collected from the professionals working in various private multinational and multidiscipline organisations across India with the help of online survey. Findings revealed significant positive association between emotional intelligence and resilience, significant negative association between emotional intelligence and work interference with personal life, a negative and significant correlation between emotional intelligence and personal life interference with work, and a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and work personal life enhancement. Resilience as a personal construct significantly mediated the relationship between emotional intelligence and work personal life enhancement irrespective of women working in fields of STEM or Non-STEM.
