Description

Data used in "Europa’s Lineaments Show Locally Preferred Directions when Corrected for the Subsolar Ground Azimuth Bias" (Haslebacher et al., 2026, JGR Planets). also see Mendeley Data repository with doi: 10.17632/z65x49pwr5.1. Galileo images (from Opus PDS) processed with USGS isis 'phocube' function. - mapped_equirectangular_sunazimuth_fornoseam: individual Galileo images - automos_sunazimuth_mosaics: Mosaics following Bland et al. (2021) generated with the USGS isis 'automos' command The subsolar ground azimuth is defined by USGS, in the isis glossary (https://isis.astrogeology.usgs.gov/8.0.0/documents/Glossary/Glossary.html#SunAzimuth), as follows: "A clockwise angle from a point of origin to the direction of the Sun. The Sun Azimuth is measured in a positive clockwise direction from a reference line. The reference line is formed by a line drawn horizontally from the origin point (pixel location) to the right side of the image. Refer to Azimuth." All images are in equirectangular projection or Stereographic Polar projection in the USGS isis .cub format. Information from these .cub files is retrieved by the Lineament Extraction Algorithm (LEA) code, available on github (https://github.com/CarolineHaslebacher/LEA) and Mendeley Data (doi: 10.17632/z65x49pwr5.1).
