Writing prompts and annotated 14 winning texts of argumentation by Chinese undergraduates
Description
The data includes the writing prompts and 14 National Final-awarded essays of argumentation from 2015-2019 Uchallenge writing contest, a nationally highly-recognized English proficiency contest in China. The 14 essays are all added with annotation of generic stages and heteroglossic Engagement resources under the "Sydney School " Genre Theory and Appraisal Theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics, to reveal both the generic and linguistic features of argumentation by second language undergraduates. The data can thus facilitate a three level (i.e. full text-paragraph-clause) analysis of voice construction in argumentation, in terms of schematic structure and lexicogrammatical resources.
