Description

In support of the manuscript by Bagley and Breitman submitted to Acta Ichthyologica et Piscatoria, and the corresponding preprint, this repository provides the raw and log-transformed length data [total length (SL), mm, converted to cm] and weight (g) data for determining length–weight relationships for 14 species of freshwater fishes from the Upper Mississippi River Basin in our study, as well as the corresponding collections information, taxonomic information, and original data Disclaimer from the Upper Midwest Environmental cience Center (UMESC). These various data and information are provided in a single Excel spreadsheet file named "Bagley_and_Breitman_2024_DataS1.xlsx." Steps to reproduce

Partial description: To reproduce, download fisheries data from the Upper Mississippi River Restoration–Environmental Management Program (hereafter, the ‘Long Term Resource Monitoring Program’––LTRMP) daytime fish electrofishing surveys, as made publicly available from the Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center (UMESC) website (available at URL: https://www.umesc.usgs.gov/data_library/fisheries/fish1_query.shtml). Then subset (to Cypriniformes records), edit, clean, remove outliers (as judged by linear regression; see Froese 2006, Froese et al. 2011), and analyze the resulting individual fish data to determine length–weight relationships (LWRs) as described in our manuscript (Bagley and Breitman submitted). Metadata are given in USGS (2024).
