Effect of quadriceps and hamstring strength ratio on foot arch in college going students:a cross-sectional study
Description
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: - Muscle strength is one of the most crucial aspects for both injury avoidance and peak performance. The foot structure, which is biomechanically connected to the knee by a kinematic chain, is affected by any changes to the knee's mechanical alignments. The aim of this study was to find the effect of quadriceps and hamstring strength ratio on foot arch in college going students. METHOD: - A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 college going students from August 2022 to April 2023. Participants were selected by a convenient sampling method. The study included 78 males and 122 females. Informed consent was obtained from subjects and the age, gender, height, weight, and BMI were evaluated for each individual. The HQ ratio was calculated using isokinetic dynamometer. Harris mat was used to obtain the foot prints and arch index was calculated using Staheli’s arch index. RESULT: - The data of 200 subjects were expressed in terms of skewness and kurtosis to check for normal distribution. To check the correlation between hamstring and quadriceps strength ratio and foot arch index Spearman rank correlation was used to analyse. CONCLUSION: - This study concluded that there was no effect of quadriceps and hamstring strength on foot arch in college going students. KEYWORDS: - quadriceps and hamstring strength ratio, foot arch index, staheli’s foot arch index, isokinetic dynamometer
