Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube as an educational tool for classical thermodynamics teaching: research data
Description
A vortex tube test rig was conceived to carry out experiments to demonstrate the fundamental laws: mass and energy conservations, the Second Law constraint, and to obtain the vortex tube coefficient of performance in refrigeration and heat pump operation modes. Pressures and temperatures were measured. Two types of pressure gauges (Bourdon and U-tube) were used along with a barometer that provided the local atmospheric pressure. Three Bourdon gauges indicate the air gauge pressures being installed at the inlet, hot, and cold upstream orifice plates. Three U-tube manometers at the inlet, cold and hot lines were used. This pressure gauge type was installed at each orifice plate (inlet, hot, and cold). The temperatures were measured by four K-type thermocouples. The first one indicates the local ambient temperature; the second one, the orifice plate upstream compressed air temperature; the third and the fourth ones, the hot and cold air flow temperatures. Please see the attached document to verify the sensors positions and measurements.
