Multispot EDS data on cm-sized vertebrate coprolites and XRD data on host- and associated lithologies belonging to Miocene (Aquitanian-Burdigalian) Khari Nadi and Chassra formations, Kutch Basin, western India
Description
Herein, we provide the Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy - EDS (multispot) data pertaining to cm-sized vertebrate coprolites from the Miocene (Aquitanian-Burdigalian) Khari Nadi and Chassra formations (Kutch Basin, western India) that depict the phosphatic nature of these ichnofossils and also reflect upon the chemical nature of the biotic/abiotic inclusions (e.g., bone matter, fungal hyphae, bacterial microspherulites, pyrite crystals). The analysed coprolites were collected from three localities namely Mata-no-madh South (specimen series COP/MT), Khirsara (specimen series COP/KIRK) and Palasava (specimen series COP/PSV) in the Kutch region, Gujarat State, western India. Report nos. 1217 (Specimen no. COP/MT-1), 1219 (Specimen no. COP/MT-1), 1018 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4), 1111 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4), 1048 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4), 1082 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4) and 1091 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4) are presented herein as Supplementary Data S1. The report nos. 1098 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4), 1019 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4) 1043 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4), 1229 (Specimen no. COP/MT-5), 1033 (Specimen no. COP/KIRK-1), 1037 (Specimen no. COP/KIRK-1), 1181 (Specimen no. COP/PSV-1) and 1113 (Specimen no. COP/PSV-3) are presented herein as Supplementary Data S2. Report nos. 1217 (Specimen no. COP/MT-1), 1048 (Specimen no. COP/MT-4), and 1229 (Specimen no. COP/MT-5) are presented herein as Supplementary Data S3. Report nos. 1037 (Specimen no. COP/KIRK-1), 1181 (Specimen no. COP/PSV-1), and 1113 (Specimen no. COP/PSV-3) are presented herein as Supplementary Data S4. In addition, we provide the mineralogical composition of the host (coprolite-yielding) and associated lithologies from the above-mentioned three localities based on the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analyses as Supplementary Data S5 and S6. The coprolite specimens were individually examined (at multiple spots) utilizing a Scanning Electron Microscope (Model: JEOL7610F) with EDAX (Model: Octane Plus with TEAM software version V4.2.1) instrument at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow, India. The mineralogical contents of the powdered samples of the host (coprolite-yielding) and associated lithologies were determined utilizing the PANalytical X’PERT3 Powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) instrument at BSIP, Lucknow, India.
