Description

This research project explores the challenges of stocktaking and valuation faced by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. It investigates the reasons behind these challenges and their impact on financial reporting, and it proposes recommendations to address them. Surveys and interviews with SME managers and owners are among the qualitative and quantitative research techniques used in the study. Key findings reveal that SMEs in Nigeria encounter significant difficulties in accurately valuing their inventory due to issues such as inaccurate record-keeping, limited access to technology, and a lack of skilled personnel. These challenges hinder financial transparency and potentially affect business performance. The study offers practical recommendations and policy suggestions to enhance stock-taking and valuation practices in Nigerian SMEs.
