Hotel and Short-Term Rental Seasonality Data: Spain, 2019–2025
Description
Companion dataset for "Seasonality of tourism demand in hotel and short-term rental accommodations in Spain: a dynamic and multiscale decomposition". Contains monthly overnight base data for hotels (INE) and short-term rentals (Eurostat), the Lerman-Yitzhaki (1985) level decomposition, the Podder-Chatterjee (2002) change decomposition, and the underlying significance tests (Grossi & Mussini, 2021), for Spain and its 17 NUTS-2 regions, 2019 and 2025.

Monthly overnight data for hotels (INE, the Spanish National Statistics Institute) and short-term rentals (Eurostat) were combined by region and year. The covariance-based Gini index (Lerman & Yitzhaki, 1985) was computed for each accommodation type and decomposed by type (share, within-type concentration, Gini correlation); changes 2019–2025 were attributed to each component (Podder & Chatterjee, 2002) and tested for significance via scaled monthly randomisation (Grossi & Mussini, 2021). See the "README" sheet (first tab) in Data.xlsx for full methods, data sources, and a guide to every other sheet.
