Description

Elemental data were collected from a 28.5-cm long section of Mancos Shale, a muddy shelf deposit from the Upper Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway of North America. The data were collected using two separate techniques, inductively-coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP-OES/MS) and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence using an Itrax core scanner (µXRF). These data were used to demonstrate: 1) the reproducibility of elemental data from an Itrax core scanner; 2) the correlation between Itrax data and ICP-OES/MS data; and 3) the applicability of Itrax data to reconstructing marine depositional environments. A description of each method, as well as the discussion of the results can be found in Gabriel JJ, Reinhardt EG, Chang X, Bhattacharya JP (2022) "Application of µXRF analysis on the Upper Cretaceous Mancos Shale: A comparison with ICP-OES/MS" Mar. Pet. Geol. There are five .csv files that were used in this research, each beginning with "Gabriel2022_"; please see the README file for an explanation of each. The full dataframes have been trimmed to include only the elements used in this paper.
