Monte Carlo simulation data for the failure of Hi-Nicalon bundles by slow crack growth introducing inhomogeneous fiber stress
The data are related to a Data in Brief article itself complementing a research letter about the prediction of time to failure scatter for Hi-Nicalon SiC-based multifilament tows under static fatigue conditions at intermediate temperature and ambient air. A Monte Carlo algorithm is shared simulating this variability on the following concept: combine the filament strength and applied stress distributions, the latter being related to fiber slack, under a deterministic lifetime prediction model. The ‘Virtual endurance diagram HI-Ni.xlsx’ file gathers thousands of simulations used to build the virtual stress-time to failure endurance diagram. This latter reveals the hierarchical scale effect affecting the stress exponent, discussed in the related article. Finally the ‘Data Hi-Ni virtual lifetime.xlsx’ file combines the properties attributed to critical filaments, aiming at identifying the key parameters piloting the simulated lifetime variability and the scale effect.
