Lexical and Syntactic Features in the Two English Translations of the Huainanzi
Description
This dataset contains measurements of lexical richness and syntactic complexity derived from stratified random samples of two complete English translations of the Huainanzi: the Zhai-Mou translation (2010) and the Major-led translation (2010). The data were collected by randomly selecting four passages from each of the 21 chapters in both translations, ensuring balanced representation across diverse thematic sections. Lexical richness indices include lexical density, sophistication, and variation, while syntactic complexity indices cover production unit lengths, subordination, coordination, and phrasal sophistication. This dataset offers valuable quantitative insights into the linguistic features of the two translations, supporting further studies on translation strategies and cross-cultural textual representation.
