The following files were built from minute-basis solar radiation measurements taken from the Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) [1] and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) [2]. Solar radiation data from a total of 52 stations across the world was acquired from these sources and then submitted to the quality check procedure described in [3]. Global clear sky irradiance was calculated for the qualified data points, using the simplified Solis model presented by [4]. This model requires inputs of aerosol optical depth (700 nm) data and water vapor column data, which were obtained from the CAMS database [5]. It is important to mention that AOD and water vapor column data were corrected for site altitude (see [3]), and the values contained in the files from this database are the altitude-corrected values, not the ones taken directly from the CAMS database. The database also contains the estimates of diffuse fraction delivered by the proposed separation models: local adjusted model, model adjusted to simplified Köppen-Geiger classification, and model adjusted to the complete Köppen-Geiger classification. For a more detailed description of these models, see [3]. The file 01_stations_summary.xlsx lists all the stations whose data is available. This file contains information about the station’s location, altitude, time zone, the source of measured data for this station, as well as the climate classification of the location according to the Köppen-Geiger classification criteria [6]. The file 02_column_names_and_units.txt contains the names of the columns in the data files, as well as the units of the data in each column. Finally, there are other 52 .h5 files in this data repository, each one containing data for one of the stations listed in 01_stations_summary.xlsx. These files are identified by the station code, present in the third column of 01_stations_summary.xlsx. A brief description of each of the columns in these files is presented in the table presented in the file 03_Data_description.docx.
