ESKAPE-Oriented Microbiological Quality Control of Reprocessed Mechanical Ventilators: Implications for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia and Economic Evaluation
Description
This dataset supports the study “ESKAPE-Oriented Microbiological Quality Control of Reprocessed Mechanical Ventilators: Implications for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia and Economic Evaluation,” conducted at Hospital Juárez de México. It provides microbiological surveillance data and economic calculations related to post-reprocessing quality control of mechanical ventilators during 2021–2025. The study comprised 1,456 initial microbiological evaluation events, of which 95 showed residual bacterial contamination. The accompanying economic workbook includes annual evaluation counts, culture-positive events, program costs, institutional estimates of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) costs, hospital cost-coverage scenarios, and break-even calculations. These calculations explore the potential economic implications of additional reprocessing under explicit assumptions. VAP-associated reference values and potential avoided costs represent hypothetical scenarios, not observed infections prevented or demonstrated savings. The data support the assessment of microbiological quality control and the reproducibility of the study’s economic evaluation.
