Stratigraphic Microplastic from Puerto Rico

Description

This dataset includes sedimentary, geochemical, and microplastic data for two sediment cores from Puerto Rico. The cores are from coastal lagoons in Guayama and Levittown. These data shows an increasing trend in microplastic concentration in more recent sediments, mirroring global plastic production rates. The more urban Levittown site contained more microplastic than the rural Guayama site. Microplastic concentrations also increased within suspected hurricane sediment deposits, suggesting hurricane induced microplastic transport and deposition in coastal sediments.
