Research Data for Paper: Spatial Hedonic Prices, Permanent Income, and Demand Elasticity for Rental Housing: Evidence from Microdata of Urban Households in Kenya

This Stata dataset is part of a wider Kenya housing survey dataset collected during 2023/2024 by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. The survey collected data from households and institutions involved in the housing sector and covered all 47 Counties (subnational regions). The survey collected data on various aspects of housing, including the stock of dwellings, household spending on housing, land and dwelling ownership, access to utilities, housing affordability, age, size, and characteristics of dwellings. The sample size of the household component of the survey for each county was computed independently and systematic sampling methodology was used to obtain the samples. The dataset is analyzed to obtain spatial hedonic prices for housing in the two major cities in Kenya. Permanent and transitory incomes are also estimated. The estimated price and incomes variables are used together with household demographic characteristics to estimate demand for rental housing. The results of the estimation sows that demand for rental ousin services is price and income inelastic.
