Data for: Three-dimensional modeling of flow structure and sediment transport in a large bifurcation-confluence system
Description
This dataset contains the numerical simulation results and validation data presented in the associated study. The data provides a comprehensive high-resolution characterization of hydrodynamic parameters and sediment dynamics within a complex bifurcation-confluence fluvial system. Data Processing and Software Compatibility File Format: The simulation was originally performed using FVCOM (Finite-Volume Community Ocean Model), which generates output in NetCDF (.nc) format. Integrated Results (.ipk): To facilitate visualization and post-processing, the raw NetCDF data were imported into Tecplot 360 and saved as .ipk (Tecplot Layout Package) files. Data Integrity: Please note that raw .nc files are not included in this repository because the provided .ipk files already encompass all the necessary spatial data, mesh information, and variable attributes required to reproduce or export the results shown in Figures 6-13. Dataset Contents Validation and Calibration Data (Figures 2-5): Figures 2-3: Velocity profiles and suspended sediment concentration (SSC) at the thalweg of each section during the calibration process (Medium discharge: 22,600 m³/s). Figures 4-5: Velocity profiles and SSC at the thalweg of each section during the validation process (High discharge: 30,900 m³/s). Analytical and Relationship Data for Discussions (Figures 14-15): Figure 14: Logarithmic linear relationship between secondary current strength and various bifurcation cases with different width-to-depth ratios. Figure 15: Sediment diversion ratios under different distribution patterns of inlet sediment.
