Description

Our understanding of spatio-temporal variability of water-soluble organic constituents and their mass transport/transformation in cryosphere is very limited. Here, we present results from a suite of comprehensive field campaigns (which were logistically very challenging) over Tibetan Plateau. Water sampling from various water bodies was collected which spanned over 300-500 km of cryosphere region and 2-6 km in elevation. Analysis of the samples illustrated a significant altitude dependence of organic matter abundance in water bodies over the wide eastern TP. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time, the elevational gradient of aqueous OM over high mountains of Asia is observed, which makes this study very interesting.
