Description

This dataset shows the results of atmospheric CH4 concentration (ppm) sampled inside and around a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), a fixed source immersed in an urban area, and in two urban zones with different urban densities in Tandil city (Argentina). The study period was one year, from July 2018 to June 2019, with 11 transects in the WWTP and seven transects in each urban zone. The sampling methodology was simple and inexpensive, which allowed collecting air samples in urban areas using syringes with a three-way stopcock. The samples were analyzed for CH4 concentration by gas chromatography (CG Agilent 7890A). Furthermore, during the sampling on each transect, air temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, upwind direction, mean wind, and gust intensity were recorded. The results allowed us to assess the WWTP contribution to atmospheric CH4 concentration and, applying the inverse Gaussian model, it was possible to estimate the CH4 emission rate from the source.
