The study collected data from both Norwegian participants of the Gottman Seven Principles Course (G7P) and a control group. At the start of the course, couples in G7P courses were asked to join, and there was no randomization. The revised dyadic adjustment scale (RDAS) and a single item question was completed independently by the participants on their mobile phones, tablets, or computers at the beginning (t1) and completion of each course (t2), as well as six months after the course (t3). We recruited participants for the control group by utilizing online and social media advertisements. These participants completed the RDAS twice, with a six-month interval between each completion, and they did not enroll in any courses. Consent was obtained in writing. The study was preregistered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04776564). We recruited 490 participants from all of the 16 physical and 7 online G7P courses offered in Norway between January 2020 and October 2021. Courses were conducted in hotels, kindergartens, churches, and online. Trainers conducted the online courses in a synchronous manner. We were able to recruit 88% of all attendees, as the total number of attendees to G7P courses between these dates was 554. The main paper investigating the effects of the G7P was published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy in 2024 with the title, "The effectiveness of the in-person and online Gottman Seven Principles Couple Enhancement Program: A propensity score matching design."
