Description

The data contained herein pertains to figures 2, 5, 9, and 10 of the article "Embedded Magnetic Shape Memory Particles for Crack Detection" submitted to Materials Science and Engineering: A by N.E. Barta and I. Karaman. We wanted to determine if Ni43Mn29Co7Sn11 magnetic sma particles embedded in a pure aluminum matrix would retain their thermomagnetic properties, and how they would affect the mechanical properties of the pure aluminum matrix. Two types of data are contained here. The first is a series of thermo-magnetization curves of Ni43Mn29Co7Sn11 magnetic sma particles (after solution heat treatment to improve and homogenize martensitic transformation in the powder particles); of the Ni43Mn29Co7Sn11 magnetic sma particles (after solution heat treatment to improve and homogenize martensitic transformation in the powder particles) embedded in pure aluminum (through powder consolidation) at 400 deg C; and of the Ni43Mn29Co7Sn11 magnetic sma particles (after solution heat treatment to improve and homogenize martensitic transformation in the powder particles) embedded in pure aluminum (through powder consolidation) at 560 deg C. The second is stress-strain data gathered from mechanical monotonic tension tests performed on pure aluminum powders consolidated at 560 deg C, and a composite consisting of Ni43Mn29Co7Sn11 magnetic sma particles (after solution heat treatment to improve and homogenize martensitic transformation in the powder particles) and pure aluminum powders consolidated at 560 deg C. The data is separated by figure; each file contains the appropriate x-y data pairs needed to reproduce each figure. The x-y pairs are further separated by processing condition, bias magnetic field, and/or specimen tested for further clarification.
