Acousto-optic figure of merit of KREW crystals

Description

The dataset includes calculated acousto-optic figure of merit M2 values for isotropic small-angle Bragg diffraction in monoclinic potassium rare-earth tungstate (KREW) crystals: KGW (potassium gadolinium tungstate, KGd(WO4)2), KYW (potassium yttrium tungstate, KY(WO4)2), and KLW (potassium lutetium tungstate, KLu(WO4)2). Each data file "KXW_AB.dat" and figure file "KXW_M2_AB.fig" corresponds to A-th acosutic mode index (1,2, or 3) and B-th optical mode index (1 or 2) of the crystal. Calculated M2 values are the maxima over all possible optical wave vector directions orthogonal to the given acoustic wave vector. Data table rows inlude Euler angles for the acosutic wave vector phi (column 1) and theta (column 2) expressed in degrees, figure of merit M2 (column 3) expressed in 1e-15 s^3/g, refractive index (column 4), and the rotation angle defining optical wave vector direction (column 5).

Steps to reproduce

The data for elastic and photoelastic constants of the crystals were taken from Mazur et al. (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ultras.2014.01.009; http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ultras.2016.08.008). The data for dielectric constants of the crystals were taken from Loiko et al. (http://dx.doi.org/10.1364/OME.6.002984). Computations include the following steps: 1) Calculation of acoustic phase velocities and displacement vectors for a given direction of the wave vector. 2) Calculation of refractive indices and polarization vectors of light for a number of directions orthogonal to the acoustic wave vector. 3) Calculation of effective photoelastic constant and acousto-optic figure of merit M2 for a given direction of the acoustic wave and all directions of the optical wave. 4) Numerical search of maximum M2 over all directions of the optical wave.
