Youth Development Dataset: Structural Foundations of Sustainable Sports Systems (Extension of the Egiazarian Model)
Description
This dataset expands the Egiazarian Model of Sports League Development by establishing youth development as the foundational structural layer of sustainable sports systems. It includes a conceptual research paper and supporting materials analyzing five key determinants of effective youth systems: access, affordability, coaching quality, retention pathways, and institutional alignment. The dataset demonstrates how integrated youth development pathways enable long-term system stability, athlete pipeline formation, and scalable league growth, particularly in emerging market environments. This work functions as a structural extension of the Egiazarian Model and contributes to the development of a unified systemic approach to sports management.

Steps to reproduce
The findings in this dataset were developed using a qualitative conceptual and analytical research approach within the framework of systems theory. The research process consisted of three stages: 1. Literature Review and Gap Identification Existing research on youth development, sports systems, and elite sport policy was analyzed to identify the lack of integration between grassroots systems and overall league sustainability. 2. Structural Analysis within the Egiazarian Model Youth development was examined as a structural component within a broader systemic framework. Five key determinants (access, affordability, coaching quality, retention pathways, and institutional alignment) were identified through comparative analysis and synthesis of existing models. 3. Applied Observational Insights Observations from sports system development, including hockey league structuring in emerging markets, were used to assess how youth systems influence long-term sustainability, athlete pipelines, and institutional stability. To reproduce this research, a researcher should: - analyze existing youth development frameworks and policy models - evaluate structural relationships between grassroots systems and professional leagues - apply systems theory to assess interdependencies within sports ecosystems This study is conceptual and does not rely on experimental or quantitative datasets.
