Description

The formation of a territorial dialect is a lengthy process, influenced by many extralinguistic factors such as historical, geographical, ethnic and etc. Analyzing the dialectal features of a particular region, the linguistic situation inherent in it is also essential to be taken into account. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to consider the language contact situation as one of the factors in the formation of the Spanish language’s territorial dialect in the state of Quintana Roo within the Mexican national variant. In the course of this survey with educated informants (200 people aged 24 to 65 years) - the indigenous inhabitants of the region, the linguistic phenomena were selected, being non-typical for the Mexican standard and widely used as a result of long-term linguistic interference with the autochthonous language of the Yucatan Peninsula - Maya.
