Description

This dataset presents groundwater samples from the Guarani Aquifer System (GAS) on its northern portion in Brazilian territory, specifically located in the states of São Paulo (SP), Mato Grosso do Sul (MS) and Paraná (PR). The dataset includes samples’ location (WGS coordinates), physical (temperature, pH and electrical conductivity), hydrochemical, strontium isotopes and stratigraphic data. The dataset originates from non-published samples collected during the “Project of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development from the Guarani Aquifer System (PGAS)” (OEA, 2009), coordinated by the Organization of American States (OAS), between the years 2003-2008; as also includes 4 new GAS strontium isotope data from samples which the hydrochemical data was previously published by Gastmans (2007) and OEA (2009) (samples 36-37-38-45), and two unpublished sample. One is from GAS itself (64) and the other (X-IRE-PR) represents GAS groundwater mixed with PRE-GAS waters (underlying units). The GAS groundwater samples were classified in hydrochemical groups by a Piper Diagram, information presented in HG column as: 1 - Ca-HCO3 water type; 1a - SO4-Ca water type; 2 - Na-HCO3 water type; and 3 - SO4-Cl-Na water type. This dataset was evaluated in the first author (C.S.Q) master of science research, along with other published GAS groundwater data. This research related article was submitted to Applied Geochemistry. Cited references: Gastmans, D. 2007.
