Description

This dataset supports the article entitled “Battery charging or battery swapping? Business model choices for electric heavy-duty truck fleets under cost and carbon constraints”. It contains the input parameters and calculated results used to compare battery-electric heavy-duty trucks, three battery-swapping business models, and liquefied natural gas heavy-duty trucks. The data cover vehicle and battery specifications, freight-service operating conditions, annual mileages ranging from 32,000 to 160,000 km, electricity tariffs, battery-swapping charges, maintenance costs, carbon-emission parameters, electricity-grid composition, and policy incentives. Four freight-service scenarios are considered: urban delivery, port logistics, collection and distribution, and regional line-haul. The dataset also includes five battery-capacity configurations, technology-improvement pathways involving battery-cell prices, energy consumption, battery energy density and vehicle lightweighting, and three policy settings. Dynamic total cost of ownership and well-to-wheel carbon-emission-cost results are provided for the corresponding scenarios. Monetary values are reported in RMB, distances in kilometres, and battery capacities and electricity consumption in kWh. Input data were compiled from vehicle manufacturers, publicly available policy documents, energy-price sources, and published literature, as documented in the article.
