Assessing Media Coverage of Environmental Protection in Eastern Ethiopia: The case of Harari Mass Media Agency

This study aimed to investigate the coverage of environmental protection issues in the Harari Mass Media Agency. It employed exploratory design with the research methodology of content analysis with quantitative and qualitative methods. Besides, content analysis and audio textual analysis methods were the main instruments employed in the data collection. In the study, purposive sampling techniques were employed, and in-depth interviews were used for reporters and editors qualitatively. Therefore, the research found out that the Harari Mass Media Agency did not give much attention to the coverage of environmental protection issues, the editorial policy of the Harari Mass Media Agency does not have articles that focus on environmental protection issues, and the source of news was mainly from higher officials. All data were gathered in Amharic language. The researcher tried translated the data into English language and analyzed it qualitatively and quantitatively .
