Description

Periorificial dermatitis (POD) has historically been associated with topical corticosteroid use. Despite greater awareness and education on safer corticosteroid use, patients continue to present with POD, prompting a reassessment of risk factors for POD and analysis of whether corticosteroid use continues to be associated with this condition. Objective: To identify trends in corticosteroid-related POD over time, other predisposing factors, and treatments used in subjects presenting with POD. A Single-center retrospective cohort study of all subjects diagnosed with periorificial dermatitis and treated by dermatologists at UMass Memorial Health from 2008-2023. Data on subject demographics, corticosteroid use, other common predisposing factors, treatment modalities, and frequency of resolution were collected.
