Molecular composition of soil dissolved organic matter in remnant urban and paired natural forests across 15 Chinese cities
Description
This dataset provides the molecular composition and chemical characteristics of soil dissolved organic matter (DOM) from remnant urban forests and paired natural forests across 15 Chinese cities spanning broad climatic and geographic gradients. The study includes 90 soil samples, with three replicate samples collected from each forest type in each city. DOM molecular composition was characterized using ultrahigh-resolution Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS). The dataset contains 26,473 assigned molecular formulas, including elemental compositions (C, H, O, N, S, and P), molecular mass information, elemental ratios, molecular descriptors, and compound-class classifications. Normalized relative peak intensities are provided for individual soil samples. These data support investigations of geographic variation in soil DOM chemistry, urban–natural forest differences in molecular composition, molecular chemical diversity, and the responses of specific DOM compound classes to urbanization. The dataset provides a resource for understanding spatial heterogeneity in soil carbon chemistry across urbanizing landscapes.
