This dataset focuses on the dropout rates of freshmen students at the College of Engineering, Salahaddin University-Erbil. Salahaddin University, the largest and oldest public university in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, is highly competitive due to its free education and occasional financial aid for students. Despite securing seats through a highly competitive process, many students leave during their first semester. The dataset includes personal, social, and educational background information collected from application and registration dossiers, as well as reasons for dropout obtained through direct communication with the students. Between 2018 and 2020, approximately 150 out of 800 newly registered students left the College of Engineering. The dataset comprises five features and a target variable. The features are: 1. Address: Specifies whether the student is from a city or village, and identifies the city within the Kurdistan region. 2. Family Income: Estimated based on the average job status of both parents. 3. English Language Skills: Level of proficiency in English. 4. Religion: Includes Muslim, Christian, and Yazidi. The target variable is the reason for dropout, which includes: 1. Changing majors 2. Postponing studies to the next year while preserving the seat 3. Emigrating to another country 4. Transferring to a private university The college registrar contributed as a domain expert in this study.
