Description

File includes wildfire-related bill and bill features (associated legislator, legislative process, and bill intent data) from California between the 2001-2002 and 2019-2020 legislative sessions. Bill topics stem from a Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic model using summary bill text from 294 wildfire-related bills identified by keywords and assessed for relevance from the California State Legislature. Bill features include topics, sponsor’s political party, sponsor’s gender, recent wildfire in the sponsor’s district, sponsor’s origin in a rural district, presence of co-sponsors, presence of bipartisan sponsorship, number of sessions served by the sponsor in the state legislature, number of other wildfire-related bills proposed by the sponsor in that session, urgency measure, state mandate language, review by either the House or Senate Appropriations Committee, number of House and Senate committees reviewing the bill, whether the bill was commemorative in nature, whether the bill focused on a particular geographic location, whether the bill focused on a socially vulnerable or historically disadvantaged group, emphasis on mitigation, emphasis on preparedness, emphasis on response, emphasis on short-term relief, emphasis on long-term recovery, emphasis on smoke, and bill passage or failure.
