Interview Transcript Report - A Qualitative Study of Developing a School-Based Adolescent Smoking Cessation Program in Indonesia
Description
This dataset (Interview Transcript Report) is a part of data collection from a qualitative study of school-based adolescent smoking cessation programs. Thematic analysis was applied to categorize and analyze the interview data. Data collection process was conducted in September 2022. We use semi-structured individual interviews to collect data and explore adolescents' perspectives on their smoking peers. Eligible participants in this study were school-age teenagers aged 15-17 years. This study involved 57 participants from grade XI students, and the selection of class XI students with specific reasons was appropriate to the research context. Participants were recruited from one of the state high schools in Yogyakarta Indonesia. Informed consent was obtained from all individual participants included in the study. Informed consent was given to participants a day before the interview was conducted, and they were sent back before the study was started. All procedures involving human participants were approved by the Universitas Gadjah Mada Institutional Review Board. Ethical approval was obtained from the Universitas Gadjah Mada Ethics Committee (Ethical clearance ref. KE/UGM/037/EC/2022). For ethical reasons, we kept participants' personal identities confidential. We identified six themes from this study. Overall, all of the identified themes reflect a strong consensus among participants about how they give positive influence and react prosocially to help their smoking peers quit smoking. In addition, we recommend the school develop a specific program related to practicing and maintaining students’ prosocial behavior.
