The raw data are taken from various sources, mostly from System of Social and Demographic Statistics (SSDS) database, collected by the Japanese Government Statistics. Other sources of data are Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan and Fukao, K., Yue, X. (2000). The data set covers 47 prefectures of Japan over the period of 1975-2017. All data are transformed into year-on-year growth before being used in the regression process. In total there are 1,974 observations for each variable.
