Description

The data contains results that were gotten from a quality control assessment carried out at some hospitals in Kaduna Metropolis, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The data contains tables showing values and information of personnel from each facilities, specifications of the x-ray machines at the Facilities, Radiation protection measures carried out, radiation dose levels, leakage radiation test, half value layer test, beam alignment tests, peak tube voltage test, mA Linearity test, and the entrance skin dose (ESD).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE DATA Use of Questionnaires Utilize questionnaires for information on each hospital or diagnostic center. Such information should include X-ray machine specifications, shielding material and thickness, room size, radiation worker qualifications, training information, and regulatory agency visits. Measurement of Radiation dose levels Use the RADOS survey meter (model RDS-120) to measure radiation dose levels in the X-ray room/table, X-ray room door, Operator's stand, Reception area, neighbouring offices, corridors, changing cubicle, and processing room. To limit inaccuracy, take three measurements at each place, and record the average dose rate. Test for radiation leakage Close the collimator and use the RADOS survey meter (RDS – 120) to measure radiation leakage at a distance of 100 cm from the X-ray tube on the right, left, front and back. Record the average dose rates values for each side. Test for Half Value layer Utilize aluminum sheets of varying thicknesses in conjunction with a dosimeter (type DR0393). Position the dosimeter at 40 cm from the cone in the primary beam. Record the initial exposure. Before adding a 0.1 mm aluminum layer to the dosimeter and expose. Carryout multiple exposures with aluminum sheets of varying thicknesses ranging from 0.2 to 2.0 mmAl. In each case, carryout two exposures and record the dosimeter reading. Use the mean of the readings to calculate the HVL. Test of beam alignment Position the loaded cassette on the Couch. Position the collimator test instrument on the cassette, and position the Beam Alignment test instrument at the center of the collimator test instrument. Set the tube at a 100 cm film focus distance (FFD). Adjust the beam alignment instrument until its center corresponds with the center of the collimator test instrument. And exposure at 70 kVp, then develop your film in the darkroom. Peak tube voltage test Use the kV meter to measure the peak tube voltage test. Place the kV meter at a certain distance from the X-ray tube. At the various sites, expose between 60 and 120 kVp then measure and record the kVp in each case. Linearity in mA Set the kVp was at 60 kVp or 70 kVp, while the kVp remained constant, change the mAs between 10 and 50 mAs. As the mAs changed between 10 and 50 mAs, measure the linearity of the mAs using a multifunction meter. Entrance Skin Dose (ESD) At each facility, utilize three thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) for the test. Label each of the TLDs A, B, and C, and position each on the skin equivalent material and expose. Store each facility's TLDs in a leather bag and label each bag with the facility's name. Go to a facility near you where you can measure the dose for each TLD.
