Description

This repository contains porewater pressure data recorded at a 200 Hz sampling rate during the April 3, 2024 Hualien earthquake in Taiwan. An integrated sealed porewater pressure monitoring system was installed in the northern segment of the Milun Fault, Hualien, Taiwan, a highly seismically active region. This system has been continuously monitoring porewater pressure since 2023, with the primary objective of observing groundwater responses to seismic activity. The pressure sensors are installed at depths of 170 m, 360 m, 424 m, and 464 m. The system utilizes fiber Bragg grating (FBG) optical sensors integrated with multilevel sealed monitoring capabilities to measure porewater pressure. The repository also includes supplementary three orientation acceleration data recorded from a nearby borehole at depths of 392 m and 492 m during the Hualien earthquake events. These boreholes constitute an integrated monitoring system established by MiDAS in collaboration with the Earthquake Disaster & Risk Evaluation and Management Center (E-DREaM), National Central University.

Steps to reproduce

The data are stored in CSV (Comma-Separated Values) format for maximum accessibility and can be viewed or edited using common spreadsheet applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel) or basic text editors (e.g., Notepad). This format also ensures compatibility with data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, facilitating further statistical or computational processing.
